Introducing Helen Smith Stone from Duluth, Minnesota.
I teach Quiltmaking for Beginners workshops and Machine Quilting for Beginners workshops (using a domestic machine). I formerly taught Longarm Quilting for Beginners for 20 years. In addition, I present a Lecture/Trunk Show, "A Quiltmaker's Journey," a retrospective from my first quilt (1979) to my latest quilt (2023) (40 quilts). Recently, I was named "Minnesota Quilter of the Year 2024." I am filled with joy and extremely honored to have received this award.
As a former K-6 educator, I have always felt that if I know how to do something, I should share it with others who are interested in learning. Teaching is very rewarding. Seeing my students progress and develop new skills brings me great joy. By teaching, I also learn and grow from each experience.
Living in northern Minnesota and along Lake Superior, I experience four beautiful seasons throughout the year. My husband and I enjoy walking/hiking, bike riding, sailing, bird-watching, cabin-time, sitting around a campfire, and supporting our local artistic community by attending live theatre, musical events, and art exhibits. I am also an avid reader and regularly practice yoga.
